Let's face it. Some subjects are boring. Even to people in the industry. Either there's nothing new to say, or even the new stuff is boring.

Right?

Maybe not.

Stanford Smith posted an article at Copyblogger titled The Freakonomics Guide to Making Boring Content Sexy:

It's easy to write about certain topics, like celebrities, or technology, or even social media. Everybody wants a piece of it.

But what if your passion is botany, supply chain logistics, or cognitive psychology?

How do you get noticed with a compelling story when your subject is "¦ well "¦ boring?

He goes on to talk about the book Freakonomics made economics (a subject he'd hated before) interesting to him.

I'm reminded of the radio show Car Talk. I didn't take auto shop class in high school like my brothers -- the subject just doesn't interest me that much. But I listen to Car Talk.

Why? Because even though they're talking about a subject I'd never go out of my way for; even though they're doling out serious, real-world advice; the show is funny.

If they can do it with car repair, you can do it with whatever you're blogging about. Even amongst people who are interested in your subject, you'll catch more readers if you make it entertaining.
