Link Building
Link building, as long as it's done legitimately, is probably the single most effective SEO technique. If a webpage has "earned" lots of links from good quality, relevant webpages, that's powerful proof to the search engines that people value what's on the page.
Natural link building is done by creating high-quality content and resources that people want to link to. While quality content should be part of any link building strategy, you'll do better if you also actively pursue links.
This can be done in a variety of ways:
- Trading links with relevant sites. For information about effective link trading strategies, and techniques to avoid, click to download my free special report Death of the Link Exchange.
- Posting comments on other people's blogs. Most have a special field for entering a link to your site. However, many sites format this link in a way that makes search engines ignore it (called "nofollow").
- Posting in forums. Many forums allow you to link to your site in your forum signature.
- Creating pages on "social" sites linking to your website.
- Writing articles and submitting them to article directories. You'll be able to link to your site from a resource box or bio that anyone who republishes your article is required to publish, getting you a link from their site.
- etc.
