Another Way to Get Traffic Using Google Trends
Posted by Antone Roundy under Social media , Traffic Building1 Comment
If you haven’t yet watched the video I posted about how I’m using Google Trends data to drive massive traffic to one of my websites, I recommend watching it as soon as you’ve finished reading (and posting a comment?) here. As of yesterday, the website discussed in the video has gotten 173,657 pageviews in the last month running on autopilot, and the nubmer keeps going up.
This stuff has really been stirring my creative juices trying to find a way to capture its full potential. I’m working on a system (details not yet available!) that I’m hoping to turn into a product to enable many people to create and monetize this sort of site without simply creating a bunch of duplicate websites (yuck!) I’ll let you know more after I’ve worked out some of the stickier details.
Anyway, I promised you something in the headline up there, and it’s time to deliver — here’s something I noticed this morning. Take a look at this page about the Society for Creative Rock Anachronism (the page on my site that’s raking in the most traffic right now). As of this moment, the middle column — YouTube videos — is empty.
What does that mean?
It means that if you whip up a video about the Society for Creative Rock Anachronism, you can OWN that search term on YouTube (and the center column on my page). Of course, this is like surfing — you’ve got to catch the wave before it hits the beach or you won’t get much of a ride. This search term may only remain hot for a few hours or a few days.
But if you develop a system for identifying hot search terms that don’t have (many) YouTube videos associated with them (…like watching Net Pulse News), shooting a video, and getting it posted quickly, you may just have a little traffic goldmine there.
One little request — if you use this idea, please make videos that are worth watching. I hate seeing my ideas used for “spamming”.
